To get a better understanding of this discussion, please let’s read from the Bible where the foundation of marriages are laid. Any building that will stand the test of time must be built on a solid foundation, and the strength of every build is dependent not just on the material used, the foundation is a factor that may not be toyed with.”

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Gen. 1:26-28 (KJV)

It is obvious from the above scripture that the first family (marriage) God created was created to prosper. All that may be required to make the family (marriage) prosper was made available to them.

The fact marriages have challenges today and very many of those challenges are leading to break-ups does not mean that those marriages cannot work. May I let you know that there is no marriage on this side of eternity that has no challenge, this is because according to the scriptures; “The earth is given into the hand of the wicked …” (Job 9:24; 1 Jhn. 5:19). The prince of this world is against anything that may glorify God. Marriages are places where God wants to be glorified, it is through your marriage that God wants to raise armies for His kingdom, that is why the battle over your home is that fierce. Be wise. The Lord Jesus Christ encouraged us to be as wise as serpents – Mat. 10:16. Jesus Christ knew that serpents are wise, if you have watched their documentaries, you will know that Jesus Christ was sure of what He said. They plan their attacks and execute them with precision. Serpents do not just attack, they do so when it is necessary. (If you are reading this and your partner can also read, please encourage him/her to read this).

God expects us to apply wisdom in dealing with our partners in marriage. Your partner is as human as you are, subject to the vagaries of life encounters. There are occasions you must think for your partner, forget about status and qualifications, any of you is vulnerable when the devil is attacking, in fact those who seem knowledgeable are more likely to fall prey to the devil, than those who accept they don’t much. It is the reason after some incidents that you hear people make sentences like – ‘how did I get here? What went wrong with me? I didn’t mean to hurt you. Etc.’ And really, many of the statements were true. The enemy came but they were caught unprepared.

The first thing to make your marriage prosper is to understand God’s purpose for your marriage and be ready to work with that purpose.

The second is to resolve within yourself that no matter what, God will have His way with you in your marriage.

Thirdly, never assume you know all it takes to make your marriage work, seek godly counsel and be bendable, only those with teachable hearts may learn. Very important, learn to listen to God on all issues that pertain to your marriage.

Fifth, Stop working on your partner, instead work on yourself. You will be surprised to discover that when you get better with yourself in your marriage, your partner may fall in line.

Sixth, stop comparing your partner with any other person you perceived is doing well in his/her own marriage. No two person are the same and you may not be able to tell what that person tolerating at home

Seventh, if you discover something is wrong in the life of your partner, please cry to God, He is a professional when it comes to helping people mending fences in their marriage.
